Welcome to We Inspect For You!

I'm Mitch the face behind CBR Property Inspection. I'm a young father of two from the outskirts of Canberra.

A carpenter by trade and licensed builder, I joined the building industry while still at school completing a school based apprenticeship.

Once leaving school and undertaking fulltime work, I started my carpentry apprenticeship in 2009 and was a qualified carpenter by mid 2011.

Since then I have worked in many different roles and areas related to carpentry and residential building.

Window installation, renovations, estimating and detailing for timber frames and trusses, project management.

Running my own construction business for over three years, this had many successes and failures. Ultimately built resilience and belief I could succeed at what ever business I set my mind to.

Weapon of choice for this business

How did I end up here?

What got me into this line of work?

I had and was running a fairly successful construction business and had been for a couple of years with a business partner.

What happened?

An indiscretion from my business partner lead to me making the tough decision to shut that business down.

Where to next?

While the business seemed to be running well, I always thought, what else is there? What else could I put my experience and skills to?

There were two defining moments that lead me to pursuing this business and industry.

A call from a friend buying a house asking me to inspect the condition of it and verify the content of the inspection that created part of the contract of sale.

Upon reading the initial report and subsequent inspection, made two things clear.

  1. The initial inspection was copy and pasted from another, items stated missed were clearly in place and others stated to be there were missing.

  2. The major items missing were structural components that had been removed and compromised the structural integrity of the building. After cost calculations of the remediation works to rectify the structural issues, it was decided the property wasn't in their best interests to buy and walked away from the purchase of the property.

The second was a visit to another friends house after their recent purchase to check out their new house.

Upon arrival, I was carrying my new born son, we walked onto the deck while I carried my son in his capsule. My friend noticed I was making sure I walked on the screw lines above the deck joists.

He asked what I was doing, I explained the deck was clearly in poor condition and I wasn't comfortable walking across the the decking boards.

The building inspection report noted the deck being in fair condition for its age, well the day after my visit. I get a call, it's my mate, his wife was walking on the deck when the board gave way underneath her she fell through and had broken her leg.

It was after this that I decided to look into the requirements of a property inspector. I knew that my experience and skill leant itself to being able to provide and good, reliable and honest inspection service. As I have seen the current ones weren't doing what was right for buyers and home owners alike.

So why am I here, why am I doing this?

My main goal and whole reason for starting this business wasn't and isn't for me.

It was to put my knowledge, skills and experience to good use to help anyone buying, selling or building a home.

This business exists for me to help others buying or building, to not be surprised by additional rectification costs.

To help others make well informed decisions, if a house has issues that require rectification, are they able to fix the issues? Will they have the funds to fix the issues if they do buy the house?

Helping people complete due diligence with what may be the biggest investment in their life with professional and unbiased opinion.
